Staff from Agrofrancia and Agrocaribe participated in the basic techniques workshop for inspection and clearance of forest fires, carried out by the National System for Prevention and Control of Forest Fires –SIPECIF in Spanish-.

“Causes for fires are: lack of preventive practices by farmers when carrying out fires before planting traditional cultivars (maize and beans), illegal logging and poor agricultural practices. ”

Carlos Enrique Perez, workshop, the main

“Although forest fires in palm plantations are very unlikely, the workshop showed them how to use techniques to fight fires, just as the right tools and the importance of using personal protective equipment. On the other hand, it is important to understand how our plantation’s internal roads and drainage channels are fire barriers. ”
