Due to the problems of infant malnutrition detected by the Food and Nutritional Security Secretary -SESAN for its initials in Spanish-, MAGA has promoted the creation of family vegetable gardens in the communities with the highest rates of malnutrition and Agrocaribe, has given MAGA economic support to finance part of this project.
The family vegetable gardens will help improve the diet of 3000 families, through crops that allow the development of the communities. With the funds from Agrocaribe, MAGA will buy seeds to benefit the 3000 families in 10 communities in Izabal.
“I've had references that Agrocaribe has outreach plans for the communities and that is why we have requested its support, because we have the equipment to make the projects but lack the economic resources to have the necessary inputs. Thanks to the support given, we are committed to give help to all the farmers and in a certain way help decrease malnutrition in the department of Izabal”.
