Generadora del Atlántico is part of Agrocaribe's corporation, the operation of this new project is to generate clean energy through the installation of a steam plant which consists of a boiler and a turbogenerator, which can cover the energy demand for the Extractora del Atlántico plant and sell energy to the power grid.

This new project is located in Extractora del Atlántico, the installed boiler burns the following byproducts of the milling process: raquis (cluster which contained the fresh palm oil fruit)and the husk and fiber wastes. When these byproducts are burned, the steam from the boiler is used to satisfy the steam demand during the oil milling process and generating clean energy with a turbine with a production capacity of 4-6 MW/hr.

Generadora del Atlántico is electrically interconnected with the Interconnected National System -(SNI for its initials in Spanish) to which all the power generating plants in Guatemala are connected to, allowing the production, distribution and use of electricity generated by the boiler.

Objective:

The Generadora del Atlántico project has contributed to local employment during its construction, for maintenance of the machinery and current operation. The main objectives are: generate clean energy for the palm oil mill through a technology favorable to the environment, to sell the surplus to the power grid and reduce the greenhouse gas effect.
