For Agrocaribe, the continuous improvement is solid again, as Agrofrancia, a corporate company, becomes the third palm oil company in Guatemala certified by the standards of the Sustainable Agriculture Network under the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal.

The implementation of the management system for certification was made in record time of less than four months to meet all criteria.

Benefits of obtaining certification:

The main benefits to be certified with the rules of the SAN under the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal are: to increase farm efficiency, reduce costly inputs and improve management. Workers also benefit from having a cleaner, safer and dignified workplace where their rights are respected.

To obtain the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal the standards of the Sustainable Agriculture Network -SAN , must be met. SAN is a coalition of independent conservation organizations that promotes efficient farming, biodiversity conservation and sustainable human development through creating social and environmental standards.

SAN developed the concept of sustainable agriculture as a way to achieve integration in agricultural practices, dealing with employees, rural communities, consumers and environments, in order to increase social and economic benefits for producers and at the same time reduce environmental impacts. For this they developed 100 criteria. FIIT, SAN’s Guatemalan partner audited Agrofrancia's farms for the Rainforest Alliance certification process.

The Rainforest Alliance Certified seal can be found in major brands and specialty products in stores across Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and Japan.
